One killed, one hospitalized with burns after Eureka house fire Tuesday night

EUREKA — A house fire Tuesday night claimed one life and sent a second person to the hospital with burns.

Firefighters responded to 414 E. Leo St. and found flames coming from the front of the house, according to Eureka-Goodfield Fire Protection District Chief Craig Neal.

One fire victim died at the scene, while a second suffered burns on the extremities and was taken to the burn unit at a Springfield hospital.

The identities of the victims were not immediately available.

Neal said the Illinois State Fire Marshall is investigating the cause of the fire, along with Eureka police and other authorities.
